Mainlining the Neo-Cortex.

This piece was developed as an exercise at the 2014 Digital Humanities Summer Institute in Victoria, BC. The challenge was to create a piece of electronic literature using digital applications for consumption in digital environment.

The process:
Assembled various elements of text into Google doc centering on a theme of rapid serial visual presentation (RSVP) and cognitive neuro-psychology  research about the physiological elements of reading and various gimmicks and gadgets to illustrate the RSVP concepts

Set up and posted to an active webpage.  Opened the webpage with Chrome browser with the Spreed RSVP add on.

Used Camatasia video capture tool to screen capture Spreed scanning the text. Used http://www.youtube-mp3.org/ to download audio sample from a YouTube video.

Use a death metal rock music clip to exemplify the brain drilling sensation of RSVP. Edited the audio using the Audacity audio editing application. Imported the edited MP3 file into Camtasia and aligned with the video. The text is being presented at approximately 400 words per minute.

Uploaded Camtasia video to Screencast.com. Embedded video in web page.
